The two major conceptual valuable things that workflow technology brings to electronic health records are smart sequences and simultaneous actions. Sequences could be a task that’s passed from role to role or from person to person. Here on the left we have the patient going from the waiting room into the exam room, the nurse doing some stuff. It can result in a great increase in both patient volume and increases in patient’s satisfaction, because they don’t have to spend as much time in the system.
